Former Public School Teacher & Rural State Representative,
Stan Kitzman, Endorses Chairman Buckley’s Proposed Education Legislation
“More Money for Public Schools and More Choices for Texas Parents!”
Pattison, TX – Today, Rep. Stan Kitzman, a rural state representative and former school teacher, proudly announces his endorsement of Chairman Brad Buckley’s proposed education legislation. This proposed legislation, which includes increased funding for public schools and academic accountability measures for students participating in the proposed Education Savings Accounts (ESA) program, addresses some of the most pressing concerns raised by school choice opponents.
As a former school teacher and representative for Texas House District 85, which includes Austin, Colorado, Fayette, parts of Fort Bend, Waller, and Wharton counties, Rep. Stan Kitzman understands the crucial importance of providing quality education to every child in our state. He firmly believes that a strong education system is the foundation for success and opportunity for all Texans, regardless of their background or zip code.
Rep. Kitzman supports the proposed education legislation as it offers a significant funding increase for public schools, ensuring that students receive the resources they need to thrive academically. The bill includes an increase in the basic allotment, which is the base amount of money given to districts for each student, from $6,160 to $6,700, with additional adjustments for inflation starting in 2026-2027. This funding increase will empower schools to provide a high-quality education to their students and address the challenges posed by inflation and budget constraints.
Furthermore, Rep. Kitzman recognizes the importance of accountability measures for students participating in the proposed ESA program. Under the proposed education legislation, students accepted into the program must take standardized tests. If they receive failing grades for two consecutive years, they will be removed from the program. These accountability provisions ensure that private schools receiving state funding through the ESA program uphold the same academic standards as public schools.
Speaking about his endorsement of the proposed education legislation, Rep. Stan Kitzman stated, “As a former educator, I believe in the power of education to transform lives. I am proud to support Chairman Buckley’s efforts to deliver more money for public schools and more choices for Texas parents! This bill takes important steps towards providing a quality education for all Texans and ensuring academic success. This is a bill rural Republican legislators can get behind. It is time to deliver for Texans.”
This endorsement from Rep. Stan Kitzman underscores the commitment of Republicans to prioritize education and support policies that benefit all students. The proposed education legislation represents a balanced approach that addresses concerns from both ESA opponents and proponents, working towards a better future for Texas education.
